new home.
Find out the replacement value of all belongings,
for your insurance purposes.
Fill out a USPS
change of address form. Notify friends, family & creditors of
your new address.
Fill out an IRS
change of address form.
Get copies of your medical and dental records, if
necessary.
Get copies of veterinary records, if necessary.
Find out about auto
licensing in your new state.
Notify your kids' schools and have their records
transferred to their new schools.
Make hotel and airline reservations if you need them.
If driving, get detailed
map directions to your new home.

to 14 DAYS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
Make sure signed contract and payment arrangements
are on file at SelfMove USA's office.
Review your SelfMoves USA contract to make sure the address,
zip code, feet, weight and date are correct. Call SelfMoves USA if changes
are needed. Make sure we have have phone number on file to reach you
at your destination city.
Make arrangements to disconnect gas, electric and
other utilities.
Make arrangements to connect utilities at your new
place.
Arrange to have major appliances prepped for the
move.

to 7 DAYS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
Get rid of all flammables. (You cannot take flammables
on the trailer )
Figure out what you're bringing with you in the car or
plane.
Obtain traveler's checks and/or cash for the trip.
Pack a suitcase with the clothes and toiletries you'll
need the first day in your new home.
Pack a special box with other essentials you'll need
for the first few days. (Make sure to mark this box "Do Not Move.")
1 DAY BEFORE WE BRING YOUR
TRAILER
Make sure you have permission to park the trailer
in a designated location. If you are spotting the trailer on a city
street, check with the police or traffic enforcement officials for any
required permits. If you are at an apartment complex, check with the
management's office so that they know the trailer will be there for
"X" number of hours or days.
If taking a refrigerator, make sure to empty, defrost and
clean it. Make sure it has at least 24 hours to air dry.
Plan your breakfast. Paper plates service is fine.
Eating something on the road is better.
Pack your personal belongings - Except your alarm
clock!
Go to sleep early! You'll be glad of it tomorrow.
THE DAY WE BRING YOUR TRAILER
Someone needs to be at the address where we are spotting
the trailer to receive it and to show the driver exactly where you want
it parked. Trailers are usually spotted in the afternoon hours between
1pm and 7pm ( unless prior arrangements have been made ) but you must
be prepared to take delivery of the trailer at any time on this date.
You should receive a call from the dispatcher or your SelfMoves USA sales
representative as to a more exact "window time" for delivery.
Call SelfMoves USA when the trailer has arrived so that
we know it's there. If it's after business hours, leave a message on
the voice mail (888-530-5899 or 703-481-6809).
THE DAY WE PICK UP THE TRAILER
& BEGIN YOUR SHIPMENT
SelfMoves USA must be notified when you have
the trailer loaded and the bulkhead securely in place. SelfMoves USA must
send a bill of lading and pick-up trailer order to the dispatcher or
your trailer will not go anywhere. Regardless of what the driver tells
you, ALWAYS CALL SelfMoves USA. We need to know the actual number
of feet you used on the trailer. You may also call after office hours
with this information - just leave a message on the voice mail.
WHILE YOUR
SHIPMENT IS EN ROUTE TO YOUR NEW CITY
Call SelfMoves USA at least once to make sure everything
is in order. We will be able to inform you exactly where your trailer
is and update the estimated arrival date for you. We can also advise
you if your shipment is within the space limits of your contract. If
you are over this amount, payment is due to SelfMoves USA before we deliver
the trailer for unloading.
WHEN YOUR
SHIPMENT ARRIVES AT THE DESTINATION CITY
SelfMoves USA will be contacting you to arrange an appointment
for delivery with the next 24-48 hours. If you make a delivery appointment
directly with the terminal, please call us and let us know of the arrangements.
